It is ideal for Anxiety, PTSD, depression disconnection and dysregulation as well as physical issues such as asthma ,tension headaches and fatigue .The idea is to centre into your mind and body using different deep breathing techniques!
Benefits of breathwork
physical benefits
Obviously we all know how to breath , we do it without even noticing its an automatic function. Many of us breath short shallow breaths from the upper part of the chest. Many people in western society have not been taught the benefits of deep belly breathing! Breathing from our belly is so much more beneficial, it enables better blood flow and circulation by opening and stretching the lungs wider. This provides more oxygen to the heart and blood flow. It can activate dopamine endorphins which give us a sense of bliss and relaxation and wellbeing. It can prevent persistent coughing and need to clear the lungs from mucous by exercising the lungs. The lungs are a muscle that need exercising like any other muscle and breathwork is ideal to give the lungs a gentle workout to enable them to function at full capacity. In return anxiety is reduced and regulation is achieved . Always only do what you feel comfortable and able to do, stop and breathe regularly if you need to , you can always go back to it once regulated.
emotional benefits
Breathwork is a great tool to help us face emotions we may be feeling. The idea is not to escape or bypass these feelings while deep breathing ,but to notice them, acknowledge any feelings that may come through, just observe them, accept any messages they may hold and then let them go . A good way to do this is to feel any emotions on the in breath, acknowledge and accept them while holding for a few seconds then letting them go on the outbreath. This can be a very effective way of alchemising emotional release into bliss and contentment and focus.
breathwork techniques involve: sitting cross-legged where the chest is not restricted, deep breaths in usually counting to 4 or 6 , holding for the count of 4 or 6 then slowly breathing out for 4 to 6 counts, longer if it feels good with you, deep slow breaths into the belly, panting, alternative nostril breathing, wim hoof technique where we breath in and out for count of 30 hold on last out breath for 30 seconds then breathe in hold for 15 seconds and then let go ! This gets repeated 3 times for 40breaths and seconds then 50 ! observing your breath and techniques such as breath of fire and ending with some chanting or audiable expression! This can also bring up feelings of embarrassment, but the audible breathwork is an effective way to release any blocks or stagnant energy! Sometimes a little dizziness may occur as your blood absorbs more oxygen to help your circulation and energetic balance , it can take practice, if you need , just stop and begin again when you feel ready, there is no rush or obligation, do it all at your own pace . Notice any thought patterns that may start to occur, any feelings of unbalance that may be there, rebalance to centre as often as you need . You may feel tingling as the energy is released and regulated , this is completely ok and your bodies way of regulating into a more centered state . It is a very calming and regulating practice
Sound journeys and meditation
What is a sound journey?
Also known as sound baths , this is s type of meditation using different soothing sound such as bells, chimes, soft drums, solfeggio frequencies and /or binaural beats, singing bowls( Tibetan and crystal) gongs and solfeggio tubes (dragon frequencies). The ideal is to lie down get as comfy and warm as you can using soft lighting, blankets, pillows and comfy clothing and drift away in a meditative state to beautiful sounds and music . There are many different versions but each promote a sense of wellbeing, relaxation and inner peace. Allowing you to go on an inward journey, regulate your thoughts, sleep better (people often fall asleep during) self connection and have more positive, and clarified thought patterns . You come out feeling rested, connected and blissful .
How does it work?
To understand how sound therapy and sound meditation works we first have to look at ourselves on a quantum level! If we break everything down to its sub-atomic level we are all electrons or quarks ! These electrons are always moving or vibrating. They merge together to form atoms , molecules and eventually matter which is what we all are, everything is matter! These electrons are a very basic form of electricity, so we are all electric beings! The electrons vibrate at different levels. two main vibration are chaos and uniform. If the electrons are vibrating chaotically, we can experience feelings of fear, anger, sadness, jealousy, apathy and disappointment! If they are vibrating in uniform we can experience feelings of happiness, calm, bliss, joy, acceptance, excitement , love, abundance and gratitude , these states are obviously a much more regulated and nicer place to be . So its all to do with how we vibrate with the universe or technically how high our electronic voltage is on a quantum level can set how we feel and what we bring to our lives even who we bring into our lives too ! By using sound therapy we can help the electrons to vibrate in a uniform fashion which leads us to a state of bliss. If you can imagine a biofield around our being full of light protons and sound waves. The waves of certain frequencies can gel with these protons and soundwaves in our field, this can help our electron vibrations to vibrate in uniform or chaos. So it is important to choose the correct frequencies to keep vibrations in uniform! The frequencies of solfeggio and binaural beats , gongs and singing bowls, solfeggio tubes and other instruments used in a sound journey vibrate on the same frequency as our brains do in sleep mode. Alpha, theta and delta waves are the waves our brains are in in different stages of sleep alpha and theta being a deep sleep stage. When we sleep our bodies and mind repair and rejuvenate. By aiding our minds to go into these alpha waves it promotes and can kickstart the healing process. the more you do it the more you heal . Its a very beautiful way to heal relax connect and regulate , When we begin to heal ourselves we can start a domino effect throughout communities through the more positive and healthy actions, thoughts and connections we make
I use Tibetan singing bowls, bells, shakers, drums solfeggio frequencies and tong drum and flute for my sound journeys all in relaxed and comfortable environment. There may also be opportunities for gong and solfeggio tube practitioners to join us too
